Colossians 1

Jesus Brings Faith, Hope and Love

Talk 2 of 10 in the series ‘Jesus Brings…‘ given at St Andrew’s Cathedral in 2014.

Ecclesiastes
Ecclesiastes surprises many modern readers for they do not expect to see modern existentialist angst presented in the Bible. It takes the gloves off and deals with understanding the world – life under the sun – without God. It is not atheistic, in that it acknowledges his presence. It is more agnostic – God has put eternity in our hearts but not in such a way as we can discover him or his plans (3:15). Using only human wisdom the great king seeks for the meaning he can see exists in the world but cannot be discovered by simple reasoning.

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus
and of the love that you have for all the saints,
because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.
Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel.
